At Advanced Health and Performance Institute in Orlando and Winter Park, highly trained and experienced professionals are prepared to help you achieve optimal health, and physical and mental performance with the help of the latest biofeedback and Neurofeedback technologies.
That effort begins with our dedicated staff, who have gone through years of training to become experts in their field. Gaining that expertise requires training and study to become certified in the field.
The Biofeedback Certification International Alliance sets requirements for those working to become certified. Biofeedback certification includes training in temperature skin training, respiration training and solid basics of Neurofeedback.
The certification is available for professionals in psychology, nursing, counseling, and training who have earned degrees from accredited academic institutions.
Degrees that are accepted by BCIA include psychology, nursing, physical, respiratory and occupational therapies, counseling, social work, rehabilitation, and chiropractic. In addition, degrees in recreational training, dental hygiene, physician’s assistant, exercise physiology, speech pathology and sports medicine are accepted.
Other fields call for a master’s degree, including counseling education and music training. Doctors and dentists are also accepted.
In addition, candidates must complete:
- An anatomy, physiology or human biology course from accredited schools, courses which cover the human body’s organization all 11 systems.
- A 48-hour didactic education program.
- Twenty hours working with a BCIA-approved mentor.
Candidates must pass a written exam for certification. The exam test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions from an advanced reading list.
To address a medical or psychological disorder, practitioners must have a current license issued by the state.
To ensure professionals remain current on the latest issues and technologies, certification is good for four years. To recertify, professionals must complete 55 hours of continuing education, including three hours of professional conduct and ethics courses.
The Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, once known as the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America, was founded in 1981 as a non-profit organization. The BCIA is part of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence and certifies applicants who meet rigorous education and training standards.
Training from BCIA is endorsed by the Mayo Clinic as well as the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research.
